I must admit this isn’t all that interesting a topic save for the fact that in the 5 years I’ve been here, I haven’t bought a whole chicken until today. Part of the problem is that I haven’t seen that many whole chickens - it’s always cut up pieces of chicken - wings, legs, hearts, liver, etc…

I’ve never really been one to go out of my way to see a soccer game. Heck, along with Baseball, it’s on Japanese TV practically 24 hours a day anyway. Up until recently, I’ve thought that soccer is a sport that is much for fun to watch than to play.

Each year around this time (March/April), I seem to have a bit of extra time which allows me to enroll in a course — usually Japanese or IT related. As I KNOW that my Japanese isn’t up to par, given the amount of time I’ve been in the land of the rising sun, I’ve embarked on the cycle of contacting Japanese language schools and arranging to visit them. (The main reason why I keep switching schools / stop studying at a school is that my work tends to get too busy at certain times of the year). Yesterday, I enrolled in Kumon’s Japanese trial program which runs for two weeks and so far, I’m quite happy with the ‘Kumon Method’.

After much convincing and ‘arm twisting’ by my boss and friends, I decided to attend the Tokyo Game Show 2003 billed as the World’s largest game and entertainment event. Even though I’m not a big ‘game’ fan*, I was thoroughly entertained by the bright lights, sounds, live stage acts, and not to mention the booth bunnies.

Having spent 90% of 2003 in Japan, I have become quite accustomed to cool Japanese electronics, that are nothing more than pipe-dreams in other countries. Some of these include hard disk drive recorders (HDD), super tiny digital cameras, the new Playstation (PSX), and portable hard drives. Not to mention their amazing cellular phones that are light years ahead of anything the rest of the world has to offer.

Hello, I hope everyone is doing well. I’ve finally gotten a chance to upload most of the photos taken during the past two months. I haven’t had a chance to post the photos from Thailand, but will do so as soon as I can (hopefully sometime in April).

Ikumi and I are now in Hokkaido. We left Tokyo for Hanawa (near Morioka, Akita-ken) Friday evening after work. We spent a couple of days with her family and relatives for ‘Obon’. I believe in Chinese culture there’s a similar event where the ‘ghosts ancestors’ come back ? I remember when I was in Taiwan, there was such a festival…

It all started on Wednesday evening. I had just finished a meeting with a client, and had gone on to look at a possible new office space with my colleagues. By the time we finished, it was around dinner time and I was quite hungry. I decided to head over to Ikebukuro area as it was on my way home, and I wanted to try and pick up a gift at the same time.

Last night, a group of us had a ’sobbetsukai’ or ‘farewell party’ for a friend of ours who will be returning to Singapore this Sunday. Many of us who attended the party have known him for most of the duration of his stay in Tokyo - almost 3 years.
