Re: Thursday PC Club + Nanaimo Crew

Hi Kenny,
It was good to meet you yesterday! I quite enjoyed the PC club - I didn't know there were places like that for 'like-minded' independent pc & business people to meet. Very cool. I can't say as much for the Shakey's food, but the wine and company was good. That Hubert fellow is a character. I think I'm going to try his recommended French restaurant. I'm definitely interested in checking out those other two 'meetings' you mentioned, so please keep me in the loop!

Tyler Harder

PS. Went to the website on your biz card: http://www.ourjapan.co.jp/ - but it seems to be down, and same with your biz card email. Just thought I'd give
you a heads up.

I think the most important step is to be realistic in what you can and cannot do. I’ve seen so many first time home buyers jump into something they cannot afford only because they have big dreams.

I love this MD player! I use it practically everyday. It's great that one disc can hold 320 minutes. BUT, I kind of wished I waited an extra two months to get the new MD that can hold 45 HOURS of music!!!! The price difference is only 100$. I still haven't hooked it up to my computer yet, but one of these days... Those mobile phones with the tv/radio are kinda neat... I really need to change my phone soon as it doesn't work properly. Can I wait for the 3 megapixel camera mobiles, or should i just get the phone with the tv option? decisions decisions. hehe

Too bad you weren't able to see the new Apple store in Ginza. It's quite nice. The outside somewhat resembles a G4 Cube, and I thought that the bottom grating for the elevators looked like the front of the new G5s.

I'm hoping that in 2004, I'll be able to change my mobile phone again -- something with 2 or 3 megapixel still shots, movie capability, save to memory stick / sd memory, powered by fuel cells (which may be introduced by NTT in about half a year), QVGA screen, ability to play MP3s, built in GPS. Of course, email, internet access, and java applet player capabilities (so that I can download tetris or solitaire and play in on the train) are a given. The TV option on the AU phone is nice, but I'm concerned that bandwidth costs would be too expensive. However, for fun, perhaps a built in meowlingual + bowlingual would be kinda neat. Of course as I still struggle with my current phone, this time, I'd get a bilingual E+J GUI.

I'm looking forward to seeing the new iPods!

(Comment by GaijinBart)

I agree with baracudaJP. Why should we pay money that the langugae we want to learn only for in Japan. I dont want to mention the discrimination that exist. If you are gaijin you know what I'm saying. I am looking for similar animation at least to learn first 100 kanji. I check many site but only this site is given real free learning toll for japanese language. I wish owner of this site can give us another animation like kana and let us to know free for first 100 Kanji. I am sure your site must be very popular outside Japan. I learn this site from my friend. He is currently working in USA and soon he will be join with other gaijin in Japan. You dont have the jp extension in your site but from contents seems it is somwhere in asia. Good luck to you. It is very useful site I ever see about japan. Other bunch of gaijin site just design to ditch new gaijin who enter in to japan. Thank you.

Hi BaracudaJP, Thanks for your comments, and I'm glad that you like the 'Hiragana / Katakana Flash animations'. It was created by my friend at NTMS Tokyo.

Anyways, I've been wanting to create an 'online Japanese' learning Web site with integrated CD-ROM (for authentic audio, video, and graphics) + learning tracking for quite some time now. I've now gotten a better idea of, umm, how to put together this project, and have found a good platform to work with, but it's mainly a time problem. The course will be aimed at people who are at about Japanese Proficiency Level 3 and wish to take the Level 2 exam.

Why this level? Well, mainly because I haven't really seen that much material for this level (eg. CD-ROM products or Web sites) and it's the level I'm trying to achieve. hehe. So it's killing several birds with one stone -- studying Japanese / further my skills in multimedia type production / and provide a service to people who are interested in studying Japanese.

I'll be sure to make an announcement on my site as various phases of the project are done. But, I'm currently swamped with my regular job now, and perhaps in December 2003 I can start more seriously on this site.

I'm curious to know whether other people are interested in this sort of site, and whether you're interested in contributing in some way. Obviously, if I'm the sole author, then the learning style will be the way I learn things, which may not make much sense to others.
