Gotta sing, gotta dance, gotta go….to HK!!!
(Written by: Simon Lai, around 2001)
We’re leaving tonight for HK so we’ll some of you soon. Thanks, C, for hosting this year’s holiday get together! It was alota fun but I definitely won’t miss Taiwan’s psycho drivers…..their speeding, running red lights, weaving in and out of traffic (& around people thru night markets), riding down sidewalks at high speeds, aggressive U-turns, constant honking even when they’re in the wrong, cutting off pedestrians……the list goes on!
Ready for some more hilarious TRUE stories? B and V go on this overnight trip to a resort by themselves. They haggle over the price of the room and when they get a decent price they go upstairs to unpack and rest up a bit. After an hour they come out and the employees think they’ve had their “quicky” and are ready to sign out. Gotta love Taiwan!
B2 (C’s room mate) and I went to Taipei downtown looking for the Custom’s Museum. The brochure sounded interesting because it said the museum housed “drugs and guns”. We couldn’t find this place so Billy starts asking the locals where it is but he didn’t know how to say “customs” but did know how to say “museum, drugs and guns” in Mandarin. It was pretty funny because it seemed as though we were asking the locals for drugs and guns. All we got were these crazy stares and lotsa laughing. So I coaxed B2 into going into the nearby police precinct to ask the front desk duty officer. It was hilarious when he was trying to explain how we were looking for “drugs and guns”. I couldn’t get over the look on the officer’s face. Finally he showed the officer the phone number on the brochure. The officer didn’t understand the brochure because it was in English but called the number and asked the person on the other end what the heck kinda business they were running because 2 foreigners were looking for illegal contraband and weapons. We finally got directions and found the place but it was closed. Gotta love Taiwan!
Anyhoo….stay tuned for “more exciting adventures with B” - HK edition.
