My Life in Taiwan - Update 2

(Written by: Jerry Hong, 2000)

I guess the question on everyones mind is, are we working yet??? And the answer is YES, we are……. Teaching like any other job, it has its good days and bad days, but all in all it’s very fun and always differnt. But if you don’t have energy for kids, then you are going to be very tired by the end of the day.

Kelly has more work than me and Vince put together. But the two of us are exploring other oppertunities as well.. For those who know me well, you knew this was going to happen. I can never just do one thing all day long.

So what have we been up to besides teaching?? Well Vince got some jobs in Taipai modelling…. And for those who already know, we are also going open up a bar/restaurant. We are hoping to have it opened by the middle of this month. It is going to be very exciting. I’ll keep everyone posted about the progress of the bar. We are going to open it in Kenting, I posted a picture with beautiful view from there. It is kind of like Tofino.. It’s a very big tourist destination. The actually town is smaller than Ladysmith, but when the tourists get there the population triples. To give everyone a perspective of the place, I try to descibe it in terms everyone will understand: As everyone knows, Taiwan is about the size of Vancouver Island, but with the population close to Canada (21 million) on it. So There is only one place on the entire island that you can go to enjoy a nice sunset and get away from all the and poplution and smell. Now can you imagine how busy it is in Kenting…… During weekends or holidays, the place is just packed with people.. People here always double park, but in Kenting, they are all triple parked….

We are still going to teach here in Kaohsiung, and then only open up the bar on weekends. It is the only place in Taiwan where the foirgners go to get away and remind them that there is a little bit of paradise on this island. Well that is it for this report…
