Travels with B - HK edition

(Written by: Simon Lai, around 2001)

Hey, y’all!

B, V and I met up with K and A and we went shopping at the night market in Mong Tok (Kowloon). N……you’re not gonna believe this but the clothes at Bossini and Baleno are even cheaper here. They’re practically giving the stuff away! 2 for 1 deals at $20 Cdn for example. You’re also not gonna believe this, but A was the only one not buying any clothes!

K is quite the haggler at the night market. He gives the impression that he doesn’t know what the vendor is saying when the vendor lowers the price and says, “You’re already getting a good deal!” But K keeps haggling until the vendor gives in. B on the other hand needs lessons. For example, he was trying to buy some bathroom products and the price was 3 for $55 HK. So Bill says, That’s too high! I’ll pay you less! Will you take $55 HK???

We met up with K2 in the evening for dinner (thanks for dinner, K2!) and then went out for dessert across from Times Square afterwards (thanks for dessert, K!). Everyone (except me) stayed at A’s for the night since it was K’s last day. Since I’m an old man and cannot take the punishing long hours of staying up all night I had to hike back to my aunt and uncle’s place to rest up in my “tiny” sleeping quarters (which my aunt calls the “storage room”). I don’t mind sleeping in such a “tiny” place. After all, beggars can’t be choosers! At least there’s a view of the city and the washroom is “pristine”. You’re so lucky Bill!…..to have the WHOLE living room to yourself at your sister’s…..and to have a talking bird keeping you up….er…..I mean keeping you company the entire night. Some people just have all the luck!

K, I’ll sees ya back in Vancouver. Looking forward to the big New Year’s party that your planning!!!

Well folks, thanks for reading “Travels with B - HK edition”. Please stay tuned for more adventures……same “B-time, same B-channel”.

This is S….reporting from a “tiny storage room” overlooking Causeway Bay. Good night and have a pleasant tomorrow!
