Dim Sum / Yum Cha & TST
(Written back around 2001)
This is your friendly webmaster writing to you live from Hong Kong. Today was another great day - Hong Kong is a great country! I was just telling my friend that out of all the other countries/cities I visited in Asia (Taiwan, Singapore, Korea, Malaysia) Hong Kong would probably be the most livable (apart from Japan of course). The food is great; the people are friendly; there is always something to see and do; the night life is exciting; and I’m able to communicate in English and in my broken cantonese.
Today, I had the chance to join my friend and his sister, brother-in-law, aunts, uncles and cousins for Dim Sum or Yum Cha which was located on top of the Ikea in Kowloon. It was great! The variety of dishes was just incredible - and the restaurant was packed. After lunch, we went to Temple Road to look at watches and souvenir type items. It was very crowded, similar to the night market in Taipei or a weekend in Harajuku’s Takashita Street. Stall after stall sold almost anything imaginable - unfortunately no air fresheners! (I did get a r/c skyline GTR though).
After walking around a bit and grabbing a Pearl Tea Drink with the tapioca balls, we went to the Foot Massage place that I went to a couple days earlier. This time it was no holds barred, and I asked for the full treatment - so while a bit more uncomfortable, it wasn’t overbearing. This was topped off with a head, shoulders and back massage. We were there for about 2 hours and it only cost about 8500 Yen for both of us!
After that we walked along the TST Promenade … I took lots of photos (I’m up to about 300 now) passed the Regency Hotel and the Penninsula Hotel and took the Star Ferry across the harbour to one of the the train stations. Finally we took the bus back - and I ended up falling asleep.
Well I’m also very excited because a couple of my friends from Canada will be flying in from Taipei as I type, so I hope to meet up with the tomorrow. Another friend will be flying in from London. It will be a reunion of sorts…
Until next time I write, have a good day!
